Pompano Beach is the next municipality to the north of Fort Lauderdale. It covers about 35 blocks along the oceanfront and stretches a mile or so inland. I’m only including the area east of Federal Highway on this page. I’ve lumped together many smaller neighborhoods all into Pompano Beach for expediency. There are multi-million dollar homes on both sides of the intra-coastal, many beautiful homes on finger canals off the intra-coastal, clusters of mid-rise condos on the beach, and many low-rise condos and apartment buildings filling in the gaps. This community is old Florida at it’s best with new residents just beginning to discover it’s wonders.

There is no real downtown here but Federal Highway and Atlantic Blvd act as the center of town. This area continues to urbanize but overall the feeling is very suburban. With the luxurious neighborhoods of Bay Colony to the south and Lighthouse Point to the north, Pompano Beach is in a great location and has some great deals in waterfront property. It has it’s own golf course and executive airport and is perfectly located between Ft. Lauderdale and Boca Raton. Here you are 5 minutes to the beach, 20 minutes to downtown Ft. Lauderdale or downtown Boca Raton, 10 minutes to Pompano Executive Airport and 25 minutes to the International Airport.

All canals are just off the intra-coastal here and all bridges are non-fixed. Draw bridges all open at short intervals or on demand. Water-frontage ranges widely from 50 to over 200’. Subtract 5’ from your waterfront and that is how long your dock and boat(s) can be. The intracoastal is 300’+ wide and the canals range from 80-120’ wide. You can take up 1/3 of the canal including your dock and boat so this area gives you plenty of space for any sized boat. Depth varies so check the nautical charts for more accurate information on specific canals. You are closer to the Hillsboro Inlet here and it only takes 10 minutes to reach the open water from most parts of the neighborhood.
