Plantation Isles is one of the most undervalued waterfront neighborhoods in the area right now. This neighborhood has many beautiful canals winding through it, is just off I-595 for easy access to anywhere, the homes are generally good sized, and it is a lush, suburban neighborhood. The only downside is the distance from the ocean. It takes over an hour to get out to the intra-coastal from here but if you just like having water behind your house and you have a boat you use occasionally, this could be home.

Plantaion Isles is in the municipality of Plantation which is one of the older suburbs of Fort Lauderdale. It is known for large lots, large homes, and large trees. Plantation Isles lies just west of the Turnpike so is the farthest west neighborhood where you can still get out to the ocean from your backyard. The highways are easy access so you can get anywhere from here. This is a completely suburban neighborhood but major shopping and restaurants are only 10 minutes away on University Blvd. This is also an excellent location for students and professors of the nearby colleges and universities. All of the neighborhoods here are lines with large shade trees and thus makes these areas very green and full of nature. From here, you are two minutes from the highway, 15 minutes from downtown and the International Airport, 25 from the beach, and 5 minutes from two golf courses.

Most lots have close to 100’ of waterfront access. You need 5’ of space on either side so if you have 100’ of waterfront, your dockage is 90’. Most canals are 80-120’ wide and you can take up 1/3 of the width including your dock and boat. Depth varies so check the nautical charts for accurate information. From Plantation Isles, you have to go under a low fixed bridge of about 8’ clearance before getting into the south fork of the New River. From here, go under the I-95 fixed bridge with it’s 55’ clearance as well as Davie Blvd. and all of the downtown bridges, which open on demand to get to sea. The trip takes over an hour.
