Coral Ridge is a large neighborhood with the intra-coastal waterway on the east and Federal Highway or the Middle River on the west. I’m including the smaller Bal Harbour neighborhood and the area south of Sunrise Blvd. within this area.  This is a beautiful neighborhood with large estate homes on the intra-coastal, smaller homes on the canals and a few mid-rise and smaller, older condominiums mixed in near the commercial areas. The neighborhood is close to the beach, just off the intra-coastal, and has a suburban feel even though it is fairly close to downtown making it a favorite for many long-time residents.

This neighborhood really has it all; great location close to the beach, great schools, the Galleria Mall and other shopping, it’s own yacht club, George English Park has it’s own boat launch, sports fields and great tennis courts, and the Coral Ridge Country Club is just across Oakland Park Blvd. Bal Harbour is a gated community on the north side of Middle River and adjacent to the commercial district on US-1 where you can find anything you could ever want or need. Here you are 5 minutes to the beach, 10 minutes to downtown, and 20 minutes to the International Airport.

There are three distinct areas of waterfront in this neighborhood. In the area south of Sunrise Blvd. you only need to pass under the Las Olas Blvd. bridge with a 24’ clearance and the 17th St. Causeway with a 55’ clearance. Both bridges open on demand, the 17th St. Bridge at 15 min. intervals if necessary. If you live north of Sunrise Blvd. on the intracoastal side, add the Sunrise Blvd. bridge with 24’ clearance and opens upon request. There is a fixed bridge with only a 6’ clearance at the mouth of the Middle River so this last area north of Sunrise Blvd. is limited to speedboats and canoes. Water-frontage ranges widely from 50 to over 200’. Subtract 5’ from your waterfront and that is how long your dock and boat(s) can be. The intracoastal is 300’+ wide and the canals range from 100-110’ wide. You can take up 1/3 of the canal including your dock and boat so this area gives you plenty of space for any sized boat. Depth varies so check the nautical charts for more accurate information on specific canals. It only takes 10-20 minutes to reach the open water from any part of the neighborhood.
