Lauderdale Harbours is a small neighborhood made up of four fingers islands in-between the Rio Vista neighborhood and the SE 17th St. business district. Technically only SE 12th Ct., 13th, and 14th Streets are Lauderdale Harbours which are all single family homes but I’m including SE 15th St. which is all condominiums, apartments, a hotel, and the amazing 15th St. Fisheries restaurant where they have nightly tarpon feeding. This neighborhood generally feels more casual than Rio Vista or Las Olas Isles even though it is the closest neighborhood to the open sea and has its share of large, elegant estates on the water.

Every home is waterfront either on the isles or along Cordova Rd. on the mainland. The only bridge between you and the open sea is the 17th St. Causeway with its 55’ clearance when it’s closed. It will open upon request anytime at 15 min. intervals if necessary. It only takes about 10 minutes to get out to sea. Most lots have 70’-80’ of waterfront with some larger lots but remember that you need 5’ of space on either side so if you have 80’ of waterfront, your dockage is only 70’. Depth varies so if you have a sailboat with a deep draft, check the nautical charts for accurate information. The canals are some of the widest in the city from 125’ to 155’ width. You can take up 1/3 of the canal including your dock and boat so this area gives you plenty of space for any sized boat. Depth varies from 4-10’ so check the nautical charts for more accurate information on specific canals.

Whether you can afford one of the fabulous estate homes on the isles or perhaps a small, affordable waterview condominium on SE 15th St. with its own dockage, this is a great neighborhood for everyone. It is quiet and serene and one of the few neighborhoods where the canals run east-west. There is something about the light on the canal from the sunrise in the morning and the sunset in the evening that is stunning! The Ft. Lauderdale Yacht Club to the north has many amenities available for members and you are within walking distance of a major commercial district on SE 17th St. with a myriad of shops and restaurants. You’re five minutes to the beach, Las Olas shopping, or downtown Ft. Lauderdale and 10 minutes from the International Airport.
